Chapter 4. Creating a Quiz

In the previous chapters, we covered how to set up all the questions themselves. All this was leading us to where we are now, creating a full quiz in the Quiz module. We will look at the options in the quiz module more closely, use them, and then see how they work in a complete test.

In this chapter, we will:

  • Create a complete test
  • Use a variety of options we have not used before
  • Discuss issues related to creating tests in Moodle

Getting started

As mentioned earlier, we have already seen and practised setting up a variety of question types, and we have moved them into a Quiz, but we have not really created a complete test. To do this, we will need to review the options we saw earlier and start using them. We will need to view the Timing, Display, and all the other options available to us if we want to create an effective test for our students.

To start with, we need to select a topic or theme for our test. We are going to choose general science, since the subject matter will be easy to incorporate each of the item types we have seen previously.

Now that we have an idea of what our topic is going to be, we will get started in the creation of the test. We will be creating all new questions for this test, which will give us the added benefit of a bit more practice in item creation. So, let's get started and work on making our first real test!

Let's open our Moodle course, go to the Activity drop-down, and select Create a new Quiz. Once it has been selected, we will be taken to the Quiz creation page and we'll be looking at the General section.
