In general, camera movements should be lightly lubricated at the start of each working day using one drop of the special oil supplied by PANAVISION in each oil well.
If more than 20,000' of film (6000m) is shot per day then it is advisable to oil the camera more often.
When cameras are run at speeds greater than 24 fps they should be lubricated more often.
If, when lubricating a camera, a regular clockwise progression is made there is less chance that any oil well will be missed.
With most PANAFLEX camera types it will be found easier, or necessary, to remove the gate pressure pad in order to access the register pin oil points.
IMPORTANT: DO NOT OVER-LUBRICATE CAMERA MOVEMENTS.
There are 12 lubrication points on all 35mm PANAFLEX movements irrespective of model type.
In addition, the thin metal strip between the bottoms of the pulldown claw slots in the register plate should be lightly pressed to check that the felt pads at the bottom of each slot are slightly moist. These pads are designed to smear a minute amount of silicone liquid onto the undersides of the pull down claws and, if dry, should be carefully moistened using a drop of PANAVISION silicone liquid.
IT IS VERY IMPORTANT NOT TO SPILL ANY SILICONE LIQUID ONTO THE CAMERA MOVEMENT AS THIS MAY CAUSE THE CAMERA TO SEIZE UP.
There are eight lubrication points on PANASTAR camera movements. When the camera is run faster than 24 fps it should be oiled more often, every 1000', and at maximum speed it should be oiled before every take.
There are 12 lubrication points on PANAFLEX 16 cameras.
To lubricate the eccentric pivot arm it is necessary to remove the aperture plate.
To lubricate the lower register pin bush it is necessary to remove the pressure plate.
