Panalite Camera Mounted Lamps

PANAVISION offers two models of their PANALITE Camera Mounted Lamps. These lamps may be mounted close to the camera lens and their brightness controlled without affecting the color quality of the light. They are mostly used to fill facial shadows.

On the Mk. I version the adjustable brightness facility works by varying the area of the reflecting surface enabling the light intensity falling on the subject to remain constant as the distance between the camera and the subject is reduced or increased during the course of a take. It uses a 411/16", 117mm, linear quartz bulb. Recommended bulbs are 120v/650w, 220v/875w and 240v/875w. These lamps may be used with an AC supply only and the color temperature is 3200K.

The Mk. II version uses a circular graduated filterto attenuate the light. It uses a 125w MSR metal halide bulb, has a high frequency, flicker free, electronic ballast and may be operated off 24v DC and any normal AC voltage.

Panalite Operation

PANALITE lamps fit onto a support bracket which is slipped over the iris rods (matte box support bars). They are supplied with an offset arm and adapters to make it possible to place them higher and further to the left or right of the lens than normal. A ball joint on the rear of the lamp housings allow them to be tilted in any direction. They are supplied with two power cables (one short and one long) fitted with inline ON-OFF switches and a spare bulb.

Both lamps may be operated either in a soft light mode with constant color temperature brightness control or as hard lights without the brightness control.

In the soft light mode the intensity of either lamp may be adjusted by turning a knob at either side of the unit. The extension cable used for the follow focus and iris and shutter controls may also be used with a PANALITE.

In the Mk. I version a hard/bright light output may be obtained by reversing the bulb and its reflector. With the Mk. II version the light intensity control system may be separated from the lamp altogether.

PANALITE lamps are fitted with four barn doors and are supplied with a complement of gelatin filter frames which fit on support bars which swing out from the top and bottom of the lamps.

Note: In order to prevent overheating PANALITE Mk. I lamps should not be left switched on continuously but only lit during the rehearsal and take periods. This is particularly so in the case of the higher wattage 220 - 250 volt bulbs, where a maximum lit period of no more than eight minutes is recommended.
