Magazine Loading

Check that you have the correct type of magazine, i.e., PLATINUM PANAFLEX or PANASTAR or other, 1000, 500 or 250ft capacity and, if it is a reversing type, if it is required to run a PLATINUM PANAFLEX or a PANASTAR in reverse.

Check to see that no film remains in the magazine from a previous loading before removing a magazine door in the light. Hinge the door catches out of their recesses and turn both counter-clockwise to release.

Transfer the plastic center core from the supply side of the magazine and place it on the take-up spindle with film slot facing counterclockwise. If there is not a spare core in the magazine one must be provided.

Push back the top lock of the supply side spindle.

Things to be done in the Dark

Extinguish the room light or seal up the changing bag and remove the unexposed film from its can.

For normal use set the film on the left side of the magazine with the film coming off the roll in a clockwise direction.

In the case of reversing magazines the unexposed film must go into the left-hand side of the magazine if the first run is in a forward direction or into the right-hand side of the magazine (and unwind anti-clockwise) if the first run is in reverse.

Take the end of the film between the thumb and first two fingers to curve slightly and push between the two front rollers until it comes out of the magazine throat (rear two for reversing magazines).

Move the roll of film over, slide the center core onto the spindle, and lock down. Pull the end of the film out of the magazine and press down on the spindle until an audible click is heard indicating that the spring loaded key is securely fitted in the keyway of the core.

Pull down approximately 2-3’ of film, bend the end of the film again and pass between the rear magazine rollers until it is inside the magazine. Pull the film to the right hand side of the core, locate the end in the core slot, turn the take-up core counter-clockwise and wind on two or three turns of film. (Left hand side and clockwise on reversing magazines.) For normal forward running magazines the film path is in the form of a ‘99’ and for reverse running magazines it is ‘9P’.

Reinstall the magazine lid (with locks vertical and turned fully counterclockwise) by placing it flat on the body of the magazine (it is not necessary to engage any lugs) until it seats properly. Turn both locks clockwise and snap down into their recesses to double lock in position.
