The F.T.Z.S.A.C. System —
Camera Speed/T-Stop and Zoom Control

As with the Focus and T-Stop control, before the system can be used the various components must be calibrated to one another.

Combined Camera Speed and T-Stop Calibration

For a “Combined camera speed and T-Stop” calibration where a change in lens aperture is to maintain the correct exposure level during an in-shot change of camera speed:

• First decide what change of camera speed is required and use the tables on pages 185 and 187 to calculate what the exposure change must be to compensate. Say 24 to 6 fps and T8 to T4.

• Before powering the Receiver unit set the “SPEED” switch on the Receiver to ON. (The camera should be OFF.)

• Set the fps limit stops on the lower side of the control unit to set the camera speed range as required and move the lens T-Stop setting to be within the required range.

• Plug power into the Receiver unit. The T-Stop will start to calibrate towards the open aperture end of the scale.

• As the lens approaches the needed aperture (T4) press and hold down the “CALIB” button. Use the T-Stop knob to set the lens aperture exactly as required. Release the CALIB button.

• The lens aperture will then reverse direction and move towards the T8 mark. Repeat the operation as above.

• The camera speed/T-Stop calibration is now set and the system is ready for use.

To change the camera speed range without total re-calibration:

• Check that the camera is switched OFF.

• Reset camera speed range as required and hold down CALIB button for three seconds. The new range is now synchronized to the current T-Stop setting and ready for use.

Zoom Control Features

The F.T.Z.S.A.C. control incorporates zoom control features much like a normal zoom control unit. A bidirectional pressure switch actuates the zoom in either direction, a speed control knob limits the maximum zoom speed and a two-way switch enables the zoom to be operated at maximum speed in either direction.

One dedicated zoom control unit, which may be affixed to a pan bar, may be plugged into the main F.T.Z.S.A.C. control unit.

Like the focus and T-Stop controls, the zoom control may also be operated via a radio link.

Alternative forms of zoom control: a. On the main control unit. This may be hard-wired or radio control, b. Separate control, c. Pan handle control.
