All PANAFLEX and PANASTAR cameras, together with PSR cameras and PANAVISION versions of Arriflex and Mitchell cameras are fitted with the same strongly designed PANAVISION lock ring lens mount.
To mount a lens to the camera remove the lens port cover from the camera (if fitted), and turn the lens locking ring fully counter-clockwise.
Remove the rear cover from the lens and offer up the lens to the camera with the locating pin in the downwards position, slide the lens firmly and squarely into the camera and turn the locking ring fully clockwise to secure.
Long focal length and zoom lenses may require additional support from the iris rods.
Range extenders are available for certain telephoto and zoom lenses which increase their focal length by a factor of 1.4 or 1.5 and 2 times.
They reduce the effective aperture by the square of their magnification. Thus a 2 X range extender working with a 400mm T4 telephoto lens converts it to an 800mm working at T8.
Range extenders certainly do not improve the optical quality of a lens and may significantly impair it. They are best used with the lens stopped down at least two stops. The image degradation sometimes looks worse through the viewfinder than it does on the screen.
PANAVISION PRIMO lens extenders have been designed to provide a 40% increase in focal length with a one stop loss in aperture and minimal loss of image quality. They may be used with most longer focal length PRIMO-L PRIME, PRIMO ZOOM, PRIMO ANAMORPHIC and PRIMO MACRO lenses and with many other PANAVISION lenses.
