Time Code — PANAVISION AATONCODE Generator Unit Data Entry

The PANAVISION AATONCODE Generator will retain its real time and date settings even when the camera has been disconnected from a power source. The rest of the data need only be entered when something changes.

Entering and Setting Data Into the Aatoncode Generator Unit

Data must be entered into the Generator unit in the following sequence:

1. Set the FILM TYPE.

The Film Type controls the exposure of the time code ‘dots’ on the film (and for this reason it is imperative that it be reset correctly every time the filmstock is changed, even for a single take).

The current Film Type setting (‘5247,’ for instance) will always be displayed.

Press the SET button. The Film Type in the display will flash, prompting the user to set it.

Press the up and down keys to scroll backwards and forwards between the various filmstock types.

When the correct film type is displayed press the SET button.

2. Set the CAMERA LETTER.

After the Film Type has been set, the Camera Letter will flash. To change the Camera Letter again press the up and down keys to scroll backwards and forwards through the alphabet. Press the SET button when the appropriate letter is reached.

3. Set the FPS RATE.

After the Camera Letter has been set the FPS will flash.

As before, this is done by the use of the up and down keys and by pressing the SET button when the appropriate frame rate is displayed.

Note: At this time the system is capable of handling 24, 25, 29.97 nondrop and 30 fps time code rates. If the camera is being under or over cranked for effect the fps rate should be left at the normal production sync sound speed.

4. Set the PRODUCTION NUMBER.

After the fps rate has been set, the last production number entered will flash. Press the up and down keys to reach the appropriate Production Number and press the SET button.

This number will be written on the film in both machine and man readable codes.

Note: When any part of the display is flashing, waiting for an input, for longer than 30 seconds, and nothing is touched, the display will stop flashing. The SET button must then be pressed again to change the data.
