Time Code — AATON ORIGIN C Unit

The AATON ORIGIN C unit is used to carry the exact time from the time code unit in the Nagra IV-S T.C. recorder to the Generator unit in the camera.

The ORIGIN C unit may also be used to reset the date and the time settings in the Nagra, if required.

Inputting Data

Original data can be entered into the ORIGIN C unit as follows:

1. Switch the unit ON.
2. The display will first ask for the Production Number (PR).
3. Enter a two digit number, i.e., ‘45’.
4. Press the “#” key.
5. The display will then ask for the year (Y), followed by the month, the day, the hour, the minutes and the seconds.
6. Enter two digits into each of them and press the “#” key after each entry.
7. Press the “*” key to start the clock running.
8. Press the “#” key and hold down to see the clock running.

Resetting the Nagra Time and Date Settings

To reset the Nagra time and date settings from the ORIGIN C unit (which should already have been set correctly) plug it into the 5 pin LEMO socket on the right-hand side of the Nagra and press the “*” key. The ORIGIN C display should read bAd..........REIoAd.

While REloAd is displayed again press the “*” key on the ORIGIN C. The display will say In Control....Good.

The ORIGIN C unit may then be disconnected from the Nagra and used to set the camera.

Periodically Checking Time Code Sync

Every two or three hours, or when convenient, the Time Code sync should be checked to be sure it is running and good:

1. Switch the unit ON and check that power is connected to the camera.
2. Plug the ORIGIN C unit into the Nagra, switch the Nagra to TEST and press the “*” key. The recorder time will be acquired by the ORIGIN C and the display will say GOOD.
3. Plug the ORIGIN C cable into the camera unit and press the “*” key. The display should also read GOOD. If it reads FAIR or BAD reload the time code into the camera by pressing the “*” again.
