The Camera Heater

PANAFLEX cameras are fitted with internal heaters to keep the bearings warm in cold environments. The heaters, which are thermostatically controlled at 70°F, 21°C, draw 2½ to 6 amps.

Whenever the internal heaters are likely to be used care should be taken in advance to ensure there will be an adequate supply of fully charged batteries or a battery eliminator available, bearing in mind the increased amperage required to power the heaters when they are in use. A yellow ‘heater-on’ light to the right of the power supply socket on the rear of the camera indicates when the heaters are operating. A red LED warning light on the Annunciator Panel will indicate if the power supply is inadequate.

A 24 volt battery separate from that which powers the camera is plugged into a 2-pin LEMO socket to the right of the camera power socket. On the PLATINUM PANAFLEX a flashing red light, or on others a green/red light, between the two sockets indicates the condition of the heater battery and an amber light indicates when the heaters are functioning.

On all models power for the magazine heater is connected internally to the camera heater supply. An amber light on the magazine indicates when the heaters are operating.

In conditions of severe cold it may be necessary to supplement the internal heaters with heated barneys (see pages 58 - 59).

The eyepiece optic may be kept clear from fogging by the PANACLEAR heated eyepiece. To operate, connect the power lead to the accessory power supply outlet on the magazine port cover.
