PANAFLEX Magazines

Magazines for PANAFLEX cameras are available in 250, 500, 1000 and 2000’ (75, 150, 300 and 600m) capacities. The same magazines may be used on the top or the rear of the camera. (Note: The 2000’ type is normally only used in the top position.)

A special spacer unit is required when using a 250’ magazine in the top position when a PANAVID video assist unit is fitted.

PLATINUM PANAFLEX magazines may be used on GII and other model PANAFLEX cameras, and vice versa, but may not be used with PANASTAR cameras which, because of their higher operating speeds, require special (500 & 1000’) magazines. Note: The PLATINUM PANAFLEX magazine digital footage display will not operate when this type of magazine is fitted to a GII/GOLDEN PANAFLEX.

The 1000’ and 500’ magazines incorporate a mechanical ‘footage remaining’ indicator which may be operated by pressing a lever on the rear of the magazine.

Unexposed film must be wound EMULSION-IN on a 2" center core.

Exposed film normally winds EMULSION-OUT, also on a 2" core, except in the case of PLATINUM PANAFLEX and PANASTAR reversing magazines (see below).

Locks on each spindle hold the cores firmly in position.

A single magazine lock, which is recessed to prevent accidental opening, locks the lid simultaneously in four places.

Reverse Running Magazines

Special reversing type magazines, which may be run in either direction, are available for the PLATINUM PANAFLEX and the PANASTAR cameras.

Reverse running magazines may be loaded in the normal manner, with the unexposed film loaded in the left-hand side, and the film run first forwards and then in reverse or the unexposed film may be loaded directly into the right-hand side of the magazine and the camera run in reverse from the beginning of the roll.

When a camera is run in reverse the film will take up EMULSION-IN.

Camera Carrying Handles

A magazine port cover, which incorporates a camera carrying handle and an outlet for the PANACLEAR eyepiece heater, must be fitted over whichever port is not in use.

A long top carrying handle, and a special rear magazine port cover to which it can be attached, is an accessory supplied for use with top mounted magazines. An alternative top carrying handle and rear port cover are available for use when a PANAVID unit is fitted to the top of the camera.
