Running the Camera

Under normal circumstances the camera is turned ON and OFF by a switch at the rear of the camera.

On the PLATINUM PANAFLEX an optional additional ON/OFF switch may be situated on the viewfinder side of the camera just below the PANAGLOW switch.

An extension power switch for remote control is an optional accessory and slides into the dovetail situated to the side of the lens port.

Certain of the optional electronic accessories also provide camera ON/OFF capabilities.

Slack film in the rear side of the magazine may be taken up by pressing in the inching knob on the rear of the camera.

On the PLATINUM, additional inching and run switches are situated inside the camera film compartment, just below the main sprocket, to make it easier for the assistant to check that the film is threaded properly and the camera is running correctly before closing the camera door.

Running the Camera at the Beginning of the Day

Prior to each day’s shooting, run the camera without film for a short period to ensure that the mechanism is functioning smoothly. If the camera is fitted with a micro switch situated at the bottom right-hand corner of the film compartment opening this must be depressed to run the camera with the door open.

Running a Platinum PANAFLEX or a PANASTAR in Reverse

PLATINUM PANAFLEX and some PANASTAR cameras may be run in reverse using special reverse running magazines. It should be noted that the film winds on or off the rear roll of film in the magazine in the opposite direction to normal.

Reverse running may be used either for shooting a scene to run backwards on the screen (in which case there must be sufficient unexposed film loaded in the rear of the magazine) or for rewinding the film between normal direction multiple exposures.

To run the camera in reverse a special switch to the left of the rear ON/ OFF switch must be set to the REV position.
