Now, we will start adding dimensional constraints to the rectangle, and later we will add dimensional constraints to the ellipse as well with the help of formulas.

So, let's begin by adding dimensional constraints to the drawing:

1. Select the linear constraint from the Dimensional panel of the Parametric tab.
2. Now click close to the midpoint of line AD and a red marker will highlight the midpoint, as shown in Figure 7.62. Now, click close to the midpoint of line BC and a dimensional constraint will show up on the cursor. Click above line DC and then click anywhere in the blank drawing area to place this dimensional constraint:

3. Select the linear constraint icon again from the Dimensional panel and then click close to the midpoint of line AB, then click close to the midpoint of line CD, and then click to the left of line AD. Click again in the blank area of the drawing to place this vertical dimensional constraint. The final drawing after adding the horizontal and vertical dimensional constraints will look like Figure 7.63. In this case, the dimensional constraints will constrain the length and width of the rectangle and you will no longer be able to change the length and width of the rectangle by moving lines or vertices:

So, now our rectangle is almost fully constrained, but if you select the rectangle using any grip, you will still be able to move it, although, this time, the shape and the size of the rectangle will not change. Also, when you move the rectangle, the ellipse inside the rectangle will not move with it because we have not added any constraints to link the ellipse with the rectangle. So, in the next exercise, we will add the remaining constraints to our drawing, and we will also build some relationships between different geometries of the drawing using formulas.
