Using the close hole command

The close hole command can be used to close gaps in mesh objects, you simply select the mesh edges surrounding that hole and the command will automatically create a surface to seal that gap. The Close Hole command button is located in the Mesh Edit panel on the Mesh tab in the 3D Modeling workspace, as shown in the following screenshot:

A gap in the mesh object can be closed, as shown in the following step-by-step example:

  1. Start the close hole command, select the edges surrounding the hole (this can be an open loop as shown in the following diagram), and then press Enter.
  2. A surface will be created that closes the gap and the command terminates, as shown here:

The close hole command contains one option that appears in the command line just after the command is started. This option is called Chain, and it can be selected by clicking on the option name in the command line or by typing CH and then pressing Enter. When this option is activated, the group of connected edges can be selected with one click instead of having to select the edges one by one.

Now, let's have a look at the next command, which is called the Collapse Face or Edge command.
