The second command in the surface mesh creation set, this is similar to the Loft command discussed in Chapter 11, Creating Primitive 3D Shapes. A ruled mesh surface can be created between two 2D curves in one step, as we will see in this sub-section. To start the ruled surface command, you can type the command name, RULESURF (or you can use the short version and just type RU), and then press Enter. Alternatively, you can click on the Ruled surface tool button located in the Create panel on the Home tab in the 3D Basics workspace, and if you are using the 3D Modeling workspace, you can find it in the Primitives panel on the Mesh tab, as shown in the following screenshot:
The ruled surface command can be used to create a ruled mesh surface between two 2D curves, as shown in the following example:
- Start the ruled surface command.
- Select the first curve. Once you do this, you will be prompted to select the second one.
- Click on the second curve. The ruled mesh surface will be created and the command terminates.
The following diagram is an illustration of the previous steps:
We have covered two surface mesh creation commands. Now, let's have a look at the third one – the edge surface command.
