Chapter 9. Setting the Stage

The environment of your game is the world in which the events of the game take place. The type of world that you create will depend heavily on the type of game that you are creating. An adventure game may include buildings that your character walks through, a race game may have a track, and a tank battle game may take place on a field. Regardless of the type of game you are creating, Blitz3D gives you all the tools necessary to create the “stage” on which your game takes place.

There are many different components that you can choose to create for your world, but several are fairly common throughout most games, including the ground, the sky, and buildings. Beyond that, the options are endless. Here we will explore creating those basic elements as well as some of the other options available to you. The techniques you use can vary from creating basic shapes to act as components in your world to using advanced techniques available in Blitz3D.
