Think of everything that you’ve learned so far in this book as a semester of learning leading up to your final exam. This chapter is the final exam, in which you’ll put together many of the concepts that you’ve learned so far and apply them while creating an actual video game. The game won’t be like Doom, Halo, Half-Life, or any of the other commercial games that you see on the market. It will actually be quite simple. That being said, it will apply many of the concepts you’ve learned, and you should be proud of the work that you’ve done to bring you to this point.
Rather than just copying the code you see in this chapter, try to actually think of it as an exam. Before each block of code, I’ll create a section describing what we are trying to accomplish. Read these sections and try to create the game on your own. If you get stuck, refer to the code and see where you went wrong.
