Chapter 12. Sounds

I want you to do some homework. Don’t worry; it’ll be fun. Go out and rent a DVD—an action movie or a horror flick. A good movie to rent would be any in the Star Wars series. Turn on the closed captioning feature (which runs the dialogue across the bottom of the screen) and then turn the volume off. Now watch the movie. You’ll notice that even though you can follow the story, it won’t seem to have the same emotion, feel, tension, and suspense that it will have when you watch it with the sound on. Music and sounds not only play a critical role in movies, but they can make a huge difference in your games. From explosions to shooting to aliens to background music, you can add all types of sounds and music to your games using Blitz3D.

In this chapter, we’ll explore most of the sound features that you can control in Blitz3D—and believe me, there are lots of controls. You can control things like the volume, the direction, the channels, the pitch, the pan, and much more.
