Know what you want

It’s difficult to have a vision if you don’t know what you want. Give yourself an honest mark from 1 to 10 for your certainty that you know what you want. Knowing exactly gives you a 10, ‘haven’t got a clue’ gives you a 1.

Short-term vision (the next 90 days)

Do you have your weeks planned out? Do you know what your vision looks like for the short term or for the next 7, 30 and 90 days with a plan on how you are going to achieve it? Then, well done! It’s high short-term vision marks for you. If you can’t get past Friday then I think you know how to mark this one.

Medium-term vision (1–5 years)

Can you see yourself in a couple of years? Are you moving on up or is the future static? What do you see as your key projects for the next few years and how will you achieve them? If you aren’t sure how well you are doing in this area, then take a look back at your past few years and see how many of your goals you have achieved.

Long-term vision (5+ years)

It’s the big one! Can you see yourself in 10 years’ time? Do you know what you will be doing? Do you have a plan of how you will achieve it? Who will be with you? How many lives will you positively affect on the way?

If you have clarity for your long-term vision, give yourself a high mark. Not so sure? Then you lose a few points and if you dare to think ‘well if I win the lottery . . .’ you lose five marks!

Written plans

So, even if you have short-, medium- and long-term visions, do you have a written plan for how you will achieve them? You get a few points if you make notes in a diary or planner, more if you consciously take time to write your plans, and full marks if you have a document that lists your visions, has images of each one and a separate individual written plan for how you will achieve them.

Visualisation

Can you see it, feel it, smell it, hear it and touch it? Or do you close your eyes and just see darkness? Can you convince your nagging negative mind that you will achieve and fulfil your vision or does the wedge of doubt start to take over?

Resources

Do you have everything you need to ensure your vision becomes a reality? Do you have the right people around you? Have you the education you need or the time required? By having the correct resources your vision becomes a reality faster and more effectively. Are your resources in place? Give yourself a mark.

Now join up the scores and you’ll have a clearer picture of where you are with your Vision Wheel.
