Troubleshooting

No Packages for You

Q1:When I run Setup, I see an error message that says the program couldn't find a package to install.
A1: It's unlikely you'll see this message when running Setup from the CD. If you're running Setup from a shortcut on a local hard disk, check the parameters on the command line; there's a good chance they refer to a settings file that is unavailable. If you're running Setup from a network share, open the Setup.ini file and make sure the line that begins MSI= points to the correct package file. You will also see this error message if two or more package files are in the same folder and you have not specified which one to use, either in Setup.ini or in a custom settings file.

Some Features Not Available

Q1: After upgrading a previous version of Office, some programs or features are not available.
A1: If you click the Upgrade Now option, Setup installs Office XP components only when the corresponding earlier program or feature is already on the computer. If you performed a custom install of Office 97 and opted not to install a particular feature, the Office XP Setup program uses those options rather than the defaults for a new installation. To install the missing pieces, rerun Office XP Setup.
