ractice giving impromptu speeches (if only to yourself).
If you are a college student, a trainer for a corporate university, or a corporate trainer, you
probably spend considerable time on the road. Use that time to hone your quick-thinking skills.
Turn on the radio. Take the first word the reporter or disc jockey speaks. Turn off the radio.
Use that word as the topic of an impromptu speech. (Granted, other drivers might look over
and think you strange as they see you talking to yourself, but you’ll never see them again, so it
doesn’t matter.)
If you are a high school or college student, you can do the same thing, minus the car. Have
someone write 20 or 30 words, each on its own scrap of paper. Put the papers into an envelope,
and when you need to practice (alone or with an audience), draw a topic from the envelope and
speak intelligently about it for three to five minutes.
