se the old standby: give feedback yourself.
It’s been used ever since teachers began teaching: the one-to-one feedback response. And it
works, assuming it’s used carefully. There are more than a million words in our language; you
can always find the ones that will permit you to build, to develop, to construct through your
critiques.
Option: To add a little spice to the feedback soup, ask the participant if she would like either a
one-word response or more-detailed feedback. Remain true to their request. If they only want
one word, say “Good” or “Better” or “Perfect.”
Brainteaser:
Here are more team names. This list, though, is easier because the cities are not
part of the names.

ive a private audience; prepare unique comments.
This technique works best in a class that extends beyond one day, where there is enough
time for you to give a private audience, sooner or later, to every member of the class. Have
your comments prepared in advance so you don’t say the same things over and over. (You can
be sure there will be some participants who will share notes. It can be devastating if they
discover you are providing the same or similar feedback to everyone. They are unique
individuals; your commentary should reflect that uniqueness.) Encourage participants to
respond to your feedback. Listen carefully as they do so.
Brainteaser:
In the problem below are words that have two things in common. First, they are
all words related to the vocations or avocations people pursue. Second, the people who hold
those positions are all familiar with one word that is common to their occupations. Your job is
to find the word that pertains to all the positions.
Example: baseball player spelunker cricket player
Answer: Bat, used by the two athletes above and often seen by spelunkers or cave explorers.
