ave them decide quote-attribution.
A great way to generate discussion about the subject matter at hand is to provide a quote and
then ask participants to decide whether or not it was actually said by a figure prominent in the
field. In a leadership or ethics class, for example, you could ask them to decide whether or not
author/consultant Tom Peters actually said, “If you have gone a whole week without being
disobedient, you are doing yourself and your organization a disservice.” Explore as well what he
might have meant by the statement. (He actually did say this, and the quote provides excellent
fodder for discussions on such topics as innovation and whistle-blowing.)

ave them match quote and quotee.
Find at least ten quotations that relate to the course you are presenting. Then type two mixed-up
columns: one listing speakers, and the second listing statements. Distribute and ask triads to
match the speaker and the comment they believe she made. Award a token prize to the triad
that has all the correct answers, and ask them to explain the thinking that led to their decisions.

Can you think of a scenario in which the following circumstances could easily
be true?
Paul has not yet learned to read. Accordingly, he cannot write either. In
fact, he is unable to feed himself or dress himself. At this stage, he is
clearly unable to earn his own living. And yet, he is given an official, highly
regarded, and extremely well-paid position. What are the circumstances?
Answer: Paul, while still an infant, has been made a crown prince, due to the unexpected death of his father, who had been
the king of the country.
