ift sentences.
“Lifted” sentences are sentences you have taken from each of the papers submitted to you.
Select sentences that contain an error. Without identifying any authors, make sure there is equal
representation among participants. (In other words, don’t take all the error-sentences from one
paper.) Distribute copies of the lifted sentences and invite the class’s input or feedback on each
of the statements. Try to point out something positive if you can, but always and gently point
out the error(s) the sentence contains.
Brainteaser:
Here’s another test of your spatial reasoning. Without using paper or pencil, can
you identify the familiar object?
Imagine the letter D. Rotate it 90 degrees to the right. Put the number 4
above it. Remove the horizontal segment of the 4 to the right of the
vertical line. What do you have?
Answer: A boat.

Following their submission of work (i.e., reports), hand each person a small sheet of paper. They
will have to check one of two statements.
1) ___ This was the best I could do.
2) ___ This was not my best. If you will teach me how to __________, I can make
this better.
Collect the sheets and take appropriate action.
Brainteaser:
Here’s another test of your spatial reasoning ability.
Imagine the letter B. Rotate it 90 degrees to the left. Put a triangle directly
below it that is the same width, and point it down. Remove the horizontal
line. What do you have?
Answer: A heart.
