In the previous lesson, you learned how to install memory in a PowerBook G4 (15-inch 1.67/1.5GHz). In this lesson, you're going to dig deeper into the PowerBook G4, taking apart all of the components necessary to remove a faulty hard drive, one of several possible causes of a hard drive that will not initialize (see Lesson 36, “Troubleshooting a PowerBook G4”).
In the interest of conserving space, reassembly instructions are not reproduced on these pages but are included in the service manual on the accompanying CD (AASPs should download and refer to the latest service manual from AppleCare Service Source before servicing any Apple product). Practice Take Apart and reassembly at your own speed until you feel confident that you can replace any PowerBook G4 component with skill and efficiency. Be sure to remove and replace the components in the given sequence.
