Workers using hand and power tools are exposed to a number of hazards usually
caused by misuse and improper maintenance. Basic tool safety rules include:

Using the proper PPE
OSHA requirements associated with tools include:
1926.300—Tool rules: Employers must make sure that all employees are
trained on safety mechanisms, such as guarding and switches.
1926.301—Hand tools: Employers must ensure that hand tools are issued,
permitted, and used properly.
1926.302—Powered-operated hand tools: Employers must use safety
precautions and proper maintenance when using various power tools such
as electric, pneumatic, fuel, hydraulic, and power-actuated tools.
1926.303—Grinding machines and tools: Employers must follow safety
guidelines for grinding machines, including when to use guarding and
abrasive wheels.
1926.304—Saws and other woodworking tools: Employers must teach
employees safety procedures for using saws and woodworking tools, such as
disconnects, guarding, speeds, and use of PPE.
1926.305—Hydraulic tools and jacks: Employers must instruct employees
on hydraulic tools and jacks and their operation and maintenance.
1926.306—Air compression tools: Employers must make sure that air
compression tools are installed properly and that employees understand how
to use them.

Electrical Safety
About five workers are electrocuted every week in the US. Electrocution causes
12 percent of all workplace deaths of young workers. It takes very little electrical
