Using AutoFormat

Excel offers the AutoFormat feature, which takes some of the pain out of formatting. AutoFormat provides you with 16 predesigned table formats that you can apply to a worksheet.

To use predesigned formats, perform the following steps:

  1. Select the worksheet(s) and cell(s) that contain the data you want to format.

  2. Open the Format menu and choose AutoFormat. The AutoFormat dialog box appears, as shown in Figure 19.4.

Figure 19.4. Use the AutoFormat dialog box to select a prefab format.

  3. In the Table Format list, choose the predesigned format you want to use. When you select a format, Excel shows you what it will look like in the Sample area.

  4. To exclude certain elements from AutoFormat, click the Options button and choose the formats you want to turn off.

  5. Click OK, and Excel formats your table to make it look like the one in the preview area.

Unformatting an AutoFormat

If you don't like what AutoFormat did to your worksheet, select the table, open the Format menu, and choose AutoFormat. From the Table format list, choose None to remove the AutoFormat.
