Take a Step Backward to Review

Somewhere during the process of decision making, we often get overwhelmed. There is a lot of information, and we get lots of recommendations. We’ve had lots of group meetings with lots of discussion, and sometimes we just feel like the problem will overwhelm us.

This often happens because we become so immersed in the decision-making process that we lose sight of the goal. We get numbed by the facts, information, statistics, recommendations, discussions, and so on.

Assignment

Remember to conduct a personal review when you get too close to the issue; keep your mentors handy to help.

When this happens, step back and take a break. Review everything you have done. Review all your information. Visit with a mentor and discuss what you have learned. Sometimes a solid review of everything you have learned and a discussion with an impartial outside mentor can help bring clarity to the decision.
