So you become the cheerleader for the decision. You have to “sell” the decision to everyone else.
If you made the decision yourself (autocratic method) then you are alone in this process. If you lead a group to consensus, then you have the group to aid you in this process. But now you are the sales force for the decision, and there are some key things you need to accomplish:
Make certain the decision is communicated to everyone at the same time.
Make certain everyone affected gets the word.
Make certain you are thorough in your presentation of the details about what the problem was and why the solution was selected.
Make certain you communicate most of this personally, not indirectly via letters and newsletters.
Make certain you discuss the consequences of the decision and the expected outcomes.
Highlight the positive and address the negative (if any).
