FINDING ADDITIONAL RESOURCES

Normally, I don't point to outside sources for information on a subject in this book because I try to cover everything myself (of course), but because Data Access Pages span so many environments and applications (such as Office, an intranet, the Internet, VBScript, and FrontPage), it's hard to cover all of them satisfactorily. Knowing this, for this first edition of the feature, I will point to other resources that cover DAPs in the various areas. At this point, they all happen to be from Microsoft.

Although DAPs are a very new technology, Microsoft has taken great pains to come up some documentation for using them. These take the form of sample applications and white papers.

At the time of this writing, white papers and sample applications are in the works and are supposed to be stored on Microsoft's Web site at http://www.Microsoft.com/OfficeDev.

Note

If Microsoft changes the location and you can't find the papers, look at the bottom of my Web page at http://www.appsplus.com/prod2000.htm. I will have a link to the white papers' and samples location, or at least a notice as to their status.

Some intended papers are as follows:

  • Programming Data Access Pages is a pretty extensive paper showing everything you wanted to know about using VBScript with Data Access Pages.

  • Deploying Data Access Pages on the Internet discusses the issues with using your Data Access Pages with the Web, including working with your DAPs in FrontPage and using frames on your Web site.

  • Creating Secure Data Access Pages looks at the various issues with using the various back ends with DAPs: Jet, MSDE, and SQL Server.

Some or all of the white pages listed here might change or not even be included. Get busy with the information you receive here and create your own pages!
