As of this writing, a great reference for switching from DAO to ADO is a white paper put out by Microsoft titled “Migrating from DAO to ADO.” This paper can be found on the CD-ROM in the ExamplesChap06 folder, and the filename is DAOToADO.Doc.
This edition of Microsoft Access 2000 Power Programming is written so that the transition of moving from DAO to ADO as painless as possible. Was everything rewritten on a one-to-one basis? No, that would make this book twice as big, and the publisher wouldn't appreciate that. What I've tried to do is take some topics that make sense to convert totally over to ADO, and do that. The rest I've tried to give examples in both ADO and DAO, and in fact have rewritten a full chapter so that examples are in both.
You can find more ADO examples in these chapters:
Chapter 23, “Welcome to the World of Database Replication,” is totally rewritten to use ADO and take advantage of the new replication features available only through ADO.
Chapter 25, “Developing SQL Server Projects Using ADPs,” shows how to use ADO from an Access database project to work with stored procedures.
Chapter 27, “Startup Checking System Routines Using ADO,” takes the routines originally created using DAO in Chapter 26 and re-creates them in ADO.
Chapter 28, “Creating Maintenance Routines,” discusses some maintenance routines created by using DAO and ADO.
