Coming up with optimized combinations of various configurations for different purposes can be extremely time-consuming. Therefore, it is very useful to be able to save settings at different levels so that you do not have to repeat those settings before each scan. If you know the different ways of saving settings and apply them appropriately, you can save time and avoid tedious, repetitive tasks in the future. Especially for scanning in batch mode, this knowledge is quite helpful.
The Settings menu allows you to save and delete configurations. Some of the settings are:
Scanner model
Media type: color negative, black and white negative, slide
Crop
All options in the tool chest
Unfortunately, Settings does not allow the selection of individual sub settings – all settings are saved collectively. If you get lost in the various configurations, you can always go back to square one with Reset to Factory Defaults. But in this case all configurations you have made in the meantime are set back, too.
The Save Settings option under Settings lets you add newly created settings to the bottom of the menu as a menu option with a name of your choosing. If you save many different settings, the menu can become unwieldy. You can remove obsolete settings from the list with Delete Settings.
Set User Settings lets you define the current settings as user settings. This allows you to make a set of customized settings for your personal needs. All settings can be reset to these values with Reset User Settings in the Settings menu. Additionally, there is a Reset to User Settings in most tools of Tool Palette 1. This is very useful should you get lost in the jungle of different options.
In order to keep the drop-down Settings menu from becoming too long, configurations can be exported to a .set file and imported again when needed. Only current configurations can be exported. To export a configuration (using the option listed in the drop-down menu under Settings), you first have to select the configuration and make it current.
The Settings menu only lets you save all settings together. This includes settings for the tool palette as well. Individual settings can only be set directly in tool palettes such as Tool Palette 1. Functions in these palettes follow the same logic as functions under the Settings menu. Configurations can be stored, set for display on the drop-down menu of the tool, or imported and exported. However, not all tools in the palettes are supported. At the tool level, the triangle at the right end of the title bar gives access to the Settings. Tools that are not marked with a triangle do not support saving, importing, or exporting of tool parameters. Copy Settings to Clipboard is another handy function available with a few tools. Once on the clipboard, the settings can be applied to an image through the menu option Paste under Edit.
The settings for image size, resolution, and position of the cropping frame can be exported to an .ncc file.
Layout tools do not support the export of any settings at the tool level. Any configurations generated in layout can be saved only through the drop-down menu under Settings in the scan window.
This tool displays various image information – saving and exporting settings are not possible.
