CASE: REQUEST

The following three steps are recommended for Mr. X:

Step 1.
Mr. Big needs to show and discuss the letter openly with Mr. X so that he can verify the contents of the letter and Jane's productivity contribution. In doing this, Mr. Big needs to be extremely careful to protect the ego of Mr. X.

Step 2.
The termination procedure of the firm needs to be reviewed carefully so that Mr. X does not make a decision too soon. Also, such a discussion should (hopefully) lead to a solution whereby Jane can be retained.

Step 3.
The possibility of working out a flexible schedule should be explored. Mrs. Pitts appears to be a most valuable employee. If this fact is substantiated, adjusting to her needs might be in the best interest of the company and of all individuals concerned; however, no company rules or procedures should be violated.
