MR. BIG

As Mr. Big, you occupy the number one power role. You consider yourself a professional manager and a strong leader. Your superiors recognize you as ambitious, efficient, and a good listener. You are a stabilizer (as opposed to a scrambler[1]) in that you intend to stay with your present organization and take a straight line to the top. You measure your people on the basis of productivity, not personality; because you are good at setting priorities and managing your own time, you expect the same efficiency from others; you maintain a clear and firm discipline line. You sense you are an excellent model for the supervisors who report to you.

[1] Scramblers are highly motivated, unorthodox people who zigzag from one organization to another to get to the top; stabilizers are loyal, hard-working people who prefer to stay with a single organization and take a straight line to the top.

You feel fortunate to be in your present position at the age of thirty-five. You credit your rise in the company to your four-year college degree in business management, your leadership qualities, and your willingness to work harder than others. You are married and have three children. You are a runner and have participated in three marathons. You spend a great deal of time at home reading management books and periodicals because you want to be known as a supervisor's supervisor.

You like Supervisor Joe as a person, but you feel he was promoted to his job without proper training. As a result, you have a tendency to be impatient with some of his decisions. For example, you supervise Joe's department much more closely than you do Mr. X's or Ms. Y's.
