Now, to verify that you're ready to move on, you should make sure you understand the general concepts. Take a look at the curve in Figure 6.69 and see if you can answer the following questions:
Which areas of the image will lose detail with this adjustment?
Which areas of the image will become brighter?
What happened to 62% gray?
What happened to the image's contrast?

Just in case you couldn't answer all these questions, let's recap what we've covered:
Flattening a curve will reduce contrast and make it more difficult to see detail.
Making a curve steeper will increase contrast and make it easier to see detail.
Up means darken in the 0–100% system.
Down means darken in the 0–255 system.
Up means brighten in the 0–255 system.
Down means brighten in the 0–100% system.
