Sorting the Thumbnails

You can control the sorting order of the thumbnails by choosing from the options in the View > Sort menu. I really like that you can sort the files by file size and resolution. That makes it easy to find the images that can be used at a large size very quickly. At some point you'll want to sort your images in a way that has nothing to do with the choices that are found under the View > Sort menu. When that's the case, you can add a zero to five star rating to each image and then limit which thumbnails appear based on the rating you've applied to the image. To rate the selec-ted images, hold down the Command key (Mac) or Ctrl key (Windows) and type a number from zero to 5. Then to limit which images you're viewing, choose one of the choices found in the Filter pop-up menu (Figure 1.124) that appears near the upper right of the Bridge window. To sort the images, just click and drag each image into the position you'd like it to appear in. (You can always drag the thumbnails, not just when viewing starred files.) After you've done that, Photoshop will indicate that your images have been manually sorted in the View > Sort menu. One really nice aspect of being able to manually sort your images is that most of the features found under the Tools menu will respect the sort order you've created. If you end up using one of the standard sort choices in the future, you can always get back to the order you put the images into by choosing View > Sort > Manually.
