CARRYING A
LONG OBJECT
There’s usually something sexual about this kind
of dream. Long objects are regarded as phallic
and—unless there’s denite contradiction to
this theory in the context—we could assume
the person carrying the object in your dream
is connected in some way to eroticism.
THE STRANGER IS CARRYING
A SWORD
A sword is a penetrative sign of masculine
potency. If your dream stranger comes toward
you brandishing his weapon, you may cower
at the unknown ahead or enjoy the possibility
of unbridled lovemaking. Either way, this might
be a timely dream, but be faithful to its
emotional content, too.
Action Ask yourself, why now? Is sex with a
stranger an appealing idea? Or is that stranger
your familiar sexual partner yet behaving in
unexpected ways that you like—or don’t like?
Tell them about your dream and discuss
openly what it might mean.
THE LONG OBJECT IS
A BATON
Surprisingly, this often features in dreams. After
all, what is a conductor’s baton for but to hold
musicians together, making music? Can you see
the parallel in your own life? What are you—or
someone close—trying to conduct without too
much intimacy being involved? A baton could
represent distancing yet being fully in charge.
Consider it, too, as a metaphor for a penis.
Action Sexual activity can be a wonderful,
lively performance or a controlled,
disconnected one. Think about your own—or
your partner’s—and decide to make changes if
real connection and intimacy are missing.

PLACED AS A BRIDGE
Any long object placed like a bridge could
represent a penis. Here, it can be interpreted as
bridging the division between the masculine
and feminine self. That bridge, symbolic of the
penis, penetrates and co-creates. This is a
positive dream of encouragement despite
its unlikely narrative.
Action Be glad your psyche has shown you in
this graphic way a subtle hint about balance.
You need to enhance whichever side is
underdeveloped in your inner world. Because
it is a masculine symbol bridging the gap
in this dream, maybe you need to assert
yourself more in life? Be more linear in your
thinking, or more penetrating?
THE PERSON WANTS YOU
TO TOUCH A LONG OBJECT
There’s a room full of long objects of every
description, and you get the feeling they are
bad and have no right to be there. Someone
picks one up and holds it out to you, eager
for you to examine it. They seem overly
concerned about your reluctance to reach
out and touch. Fearful, you want to run away—
but there’s no exit to this room.
Action Are you afraid of sexual activity? Was
there perhaps an inappropriate time in your
history (childhood abuse often lies behind
such fear) that still haunts you? Examine your
attitude to current sexual encounters. If you
suspect they have been inuenced by that
time, understand you have nothing to fear
now. You are in control—there is a way out.
