BEING
CHASED
There’s something primeval about the
concept of being chased, whether by
an animal or a person. Both could be
dangerous and possibly kill you. On
the other hand, either could chase
you around the garden—or the
bedroom—in a fun game without any
fear of catastrophe. The dream
context will indicate friend or foe.
WILD ANIMAL CLAWING
AT THE DOOR
A huge wild animal is chasing you out of the
woods. Terried, you run for safety. You peer
from a wayside hut’s front door and see it
coming closer. You slam the door, then hear
scratching claws on the woodwork.
Action This wild animal is no marauding
monster. He’s your dream ally, wanting to help.
Find the courage to dream the dream on and
invite him inside. Imagine what your ally is
trying to convey. Does he want to support in
some way, psychologically empowering you?
Consider a large wild animal’s strength: could
you do with some of that?
DANGER ZONE WARNING
A man starts to shout from afar and chase you
across a eld. You start to run in the dream, not
liking the look of him and feeling frightened.
The yells then inexplicably stop. Suddenly, a
barbed-wire fence stretches across the plain in
front of you, not far from army huts. So the
shouting was a warning—you’ve wandered into
a military zone.
Action Preconceptions can cloud issues, as
this dream shows. Try living more authentically,
without making false assumptions based on
how people look. Learn to wait to nd out
about them—never assume.

Being Chased
FOOTSTEPS FOLLOW YOU
DOWN A DARK STREET
You are hurrying home from an evening out and
hear footsteps behind you. The quicker you
walk, the faster the steps become: someone is
chasing you and means you harm! You start to
run—so does the follower. Frightened, you aim
for a stranger’s front door. Your pursuer catches
up to you, but they hurry past. You feel foolish.
Action Fear makes us imagine the worst. Are
you often anxious, identifying with the plight of
assaulted victims you read about? You are not
alone in struggling with fear: no need to feel
foolish. Own your fears by sharing your feelings
with a good friend—then those scary dreams
may be less likely to return.
CHASED BY YOUR PET
Your pet is curled up fast asleep. There’s
something you want to make him do, so you
wake him. He’s frustrated at being disturbed. He
leaps growling out of the chair, then chases you
around the house. You try to pacify him, but the
damage is done: he’ll be touchy all day.
Action Who might the animal be representing—
someone you know, or a part of yourself
longing to just curl up and shut out the world?
Either way, appreciate how an abrupt
wakening is upsetting—and you must pay
the consequences. Try easing gently into
situations, for another’s sake or for your own.
