ABOUT THE AUTHOR
ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
Rosie March-Smith, UKCP, BCPC, and Member
Emeritus of the UK Association of Humanistic
Psychology Practitioners, has been a psychotherapist
for nearly 30 years. She began her working life as a
newspaper journalist and ultimately became a
freelance international feature writer. A tutor in
Creative Writing at Denman College, Oxon, England,
and other UK colleges of Further Education, she also
taught prisoners in Reading Gaol, where the
playwright Oscar Wilde was once imprisoned.
An increasing interest in the psychology (and
hidden distress) lying behind her students’ written
work spurred her to train as a psychotherapist. For
over a decade, she ran residential holistic living
workshops in tandem with creative writing from her
home in Somerset, England, where she still lives.
Rosie was a co-founder of The Dorset Association
of Counselling and Psychotherapy, which oers
speakers, workshops, and support to professional
therapists from all over the West Country.
She is also the author of two Open University
Press publications—Counselling Skills for
Complementary Therapists and Relationship Therapy
(McGraw-Hill Education).

Many of the case studies were oered by clients
past and present, all of whom gladly gave their
permission for inclusion in this book; thanks are most
certainly due to them.
Finally, the publisher’s editor Emma Hill made the
entire project not only smooth but greatly enjoyable—
the author oers the warmest of thanks for her
patience and gentle encouragement throughout.
Publisher’s acknowledgments
