Loss
FUNERALS
Usually not a subject to bring light and
joy into peoples’ lives—quite the
opposite, if a loved one has died. But
in the dream world, funerals often hold
positive messages. While associated,
of course, with death and transition,
they seldom mean physical death. But
change is always indicated.
YOUR OWN FUNERAL
You dream of digging your own grave. You are
then killed by a crowd of angry women, who
lower you into the ground. They cover you with
dirt and prepare to leave you all alone. Somehow
you feel a strange sense of rightness, as if these
women were justied in their anger and fairly
sought to bury you—or was it a part of you?
Action This is a symbolic dream, where some
ignored aspect of your personality is being taken
to task by your psyche. Are you aware of
neglecting your feminine, softer, intuitive side?
Are you overly proud of your penetrative
strength—your masculine power? Man or
woman, you should have an equal balance of
both masculine and feminine for psychological
maturity. Respect the dream’s message and
work on nurturing your feminine qualities.
A BUTTERFLY AFTER
A FUNERAL
Your dream takes you outside into a church’s
graveyard once the funeral service has nished,
and you watch grieving relatives and friends
witness the nal stages of a loved one’s funeral.
For you, the loss is deeply felt: you can’t imagine
life without the presence of that loving person.
Suddenly, when the mourners have walked away,
you see a buttery uttering over the grave.
Action Millions of the world’s population believe
in life after death. A buttery is often a symbol
of rebirth—it emerges from a chrysalis into a
completely new life. Take comfort from the
possibility that your dream buttery is
conrming this: it’s a beautiful image, and the
dream belongs to you.

WATCHING A
CELEBRITY’S FUNERAL
In the dream, someone famous has died—a
celebrity you have always admired—and you are
watching television coverage to share in the
mourning. You weep at the rst sight of the
ower-laden con, knowing the person inside is
gone forever. Your tears remain as you wake up to
reality—and remember they haven’t died.
Action This famous person portrays many of the
qualities you most wish you possessed yourself.
Whatever they are, accept that your grief is not
for the dreamed loss of a beloved celebrity, but
rather you are grieving for what unconsciously
represents the end of hope that you can ever
achieve those qualities yourself. You may
actually have them but are unaware or lack the
condence to acknowledge their presence.
Think about what attracts you to that person.
Can you entertain the possibility that you are a
bit like them? Practice believing in yourself, and
celebrate your own qualities.
