A HIGHWAY TRAFFIC
ACCIDENT
You are driving along and see a bad accident
on the other side of the highway. Ambulances
and police cars surround the scene, and you
are full of concern about the outcome for the
drivers and passengers involved. There is
nothing you can do; you must speed on in the
opposite direction.
Action This is an anxiety dream about
strangers colliding in all senses with those you
love, causing distress to everyone. As in the
dream, there is nothing appropriate for you to
do—you must let others make their mistakes.
Therein lie the lessons they must learn.
ACCIDENTS
Accidents usually mean distress, anxiety,
and pain. Dreams about them often
mirror our current feelings: a sense of
impending doom and a tensing against
a crash of some kind, whether the hard
impact is literal or emotional. Dreams
of accidents play out our fears—or
sometimes warn of the avoidable.

Accidents
A BIKE PILE-UP
You are cycling with friends, negotiating
hairpin turns and speeding recklessly downhill.
You feel powerful, like a winner, despite there
being no competition. But suddenly you take
the next turn too sharply, causing a terrible
pile-up. Your friends fall o, screaming in pain
as they hit the pavement. You alone are
responsible—leading them, you took a
foolish chance.
Action A bicycle—a speedy extension of
yourself—is a useful metaphor in the dream
to warn about taking risks where others will
suer, too. What are you doing too fast and
too carelessly? Don’t let hubris cause an
emotional accident. Approach unseen
corners in life with more caution.
YOUR FLIGHT IS DELAYED
The runway has closed following an accident,
and you miss your ight. In your dream, the
delay goes on interminably, but you don’t lose
your cool and sit down with a coee and a
book to wait for developments. While other
passengers are shouting angrily, you get
absorbed in your book, resigned at missing
an urgent appointment.
Action Celebrate your calm acceptance of
the way life is turning out. Delays happen, and
you have learned to see dicult situations
through, knowing movement will happen
when all the pieces are in place.
YOU RUN INTO
A LAMPPOST
You are cycling in town and, losing attention as
you look in a store window, run into a lamppost.
Passersby either stop to ask if you are hurt or
smirk at their friends. You feel annoyed on all
counts, particularly as you will be late for work.
You wonder what local government you can
blame for the lamppost’s faulty position.
Action What is it in front of your nose that you
are failing to see because your attention
wanders? Count the number of times you
experience collisions in relationships: is
this emotional avoidance or just plain
carelessness? Resolve to pay better attention
to your everyday behavior, looking for
possible distress before it happens. You will
be happier this way.
