Marathon Running
YOU STRUGGLE TO REACH
THE FINISH LINE
Runners are passing you in the dream’s race,
and although you can see the nish line, you
just cannot reach it. Now you are crawling,
exhausted, as the crowds dwindle away, the
race over. But a friend appears and helps you
get to your feet again and stagger to the end.
Action Learn to look after yourself better. Are
you setting unrealistic goals, not fully
prepared? Realize how much better you’d feel
if you had trained—whatever training means
for you—and continue to the end, condent
the long distance ahead is possible.
A WORK MARATHON
Your workload reaches nightmare proportions as
you are required to do far more than you can
cope with. You’re asked to make dicult calls,
write a thousand words, pick up the children from
school, prepare for a dinner party …. You’re in
despair at this “running around” and feel so
resentful, you punch the nearest person hard.
Action Passive aggression lurks here in real life!
Think about how often you let others put upon
you, probably unaware of the diculty they
cause. Voice your concerns before you take it
out on the perpetrators, as you did in the dream.
Find the courage to explain your feelings
about being overloaded. Express your anger
for a change; others will be glad you did,
despite your usual didence.
A SNOWBOUND RACE
You have prepared for weeks to run in a charity
race, but one glance outside shows the streets
are snowbound. You wish you hadn’t enrolled—all
those wasted hours training when you needed to
do other things. But your dream takes you to the
starting line, and only a handful of runners have
turned up. You all decide to carry on, trudging
companionably through the snow.
Action Celebrate your determination. That
attitude to continue on despite setbacks is a gift
to be proud of, whether it’s a marathon or facing
life’s inevitable challenges.
