INSECTS
Insects are small animals, so it’s
surprising how much they are feared
as creepy crawlies. They crop up in
our dreams as species of all shapes
and sizes yet, however harmless, they
seem to remind us at a primal level
of danger. Bites, stings, and invasion
seem part of that ancient dread.
YOU ARE BITTEN BY A TICK
Your dream takes you on a pleasant walk
among tall grasses. The appearance later of a
small tick on your thigh seems insignicant. Yet,
as you watch, the tick grows larger and larger
until it is full of your blood—so full, it balloons to
the size of a basketball. It revolts you and yet
you can’t dislodge it. Somehow this reminds you
of a recent emotion you’ve been experiencing.
Action Is there a psychological vampire
draining you out there? Many people
unwittingly steal your psychic energy, leaving
you exhausted; others thrive unhealthily on
taking from you. Realize the tick’s bite is a
metaphor for what’s happening to you socially.
Be more alert to the dangers: it’s not a physical
health hazard, but a mental or spiritual one.
Choose your company carefully.
YOU WATCH A
SPIDER POUNCE
In your dream, a giant spider comes out of its
hiding place to investigate the silk web woven to
trap its victim—and then waits in the shadows.
It’s a terrifying prospect, and you shudder to
imagine the scene as its prey steps innocently
into the silky trap. You then watch it played out:
the spider pounces, pulling its prey down into
its shadowy, dark hole.
Action Your psyche has used this unpleasant
picture to help you begin to face either what
has already happened to you in a real-life
encounter or what you fear. Stalkers behave
like the spider, as do sex oenders weaving
silky, careful plans to get their wishes met.
Don’t be frightened by this dream; be grateful
for it. Talk to a trusted friend or therapist.
