TOYS
Toys made of wood have a special
magic for children. They are tactile
and solid and usually painted in
appealing colors. No wonder some
toys have become collector’s items
since the last century, such is their
lasting charm. When they appear in
dreams, they can symbolize good
times in the past or highlight issues
you need to consider in the present.
YOU FIND ANCESTORS’ TOYS
You see an old-fashioned store and go inside:
it’s a toystore selling antique dolls and
playthings. Somehow you know the ones you
especially like once belonged to your ancestors.
You buy them to take home to give to children,
familiar or otherwise. You want to perpetuate the
fun you and your ancestors once enjoyed.
Action Understand that nding links with the
distant past is important. If possible, trace who
your ancestors were, what they did, and what
characteristics you inherited from them. Those
toys are symbolic of good times you all must
have shared. Your psyche is indicating that

HAMMERING PEGS INTO
ROUND HOLES
Dreaming of sorting discarded toys, you nd a
wooden hammer-and-pegs game. You
remember how children love to bang the
round pegs into the holes once they’ve
understood the need to hit hard enough.
There’s something about that whole-hearted
hammering that appeals to you in the dream,
and you wake up smiling.

like to hammer home an emotional or political
point? You were attracted to the intense
movement in the dream: consider what lies

YOU SEE A WOODEN PUPPET
UNABLE TO MOVE
In a frightening dream, you see a wooden
puppet that seems paralyzed despite its strings.
Someone is trying to lift its limbs unsuccessfully
from the manipulating platform above. You feel
a sense of horror at its inability to respond and
shout to try to bring it to life.
Action The puppet on a string is you. Are you in
a stuck position in life, unable to move? Who
might the puppet master be? Is there a parallel
there with someone in your day-to-day
routine? Take heart from your act of shouting
to try to bring the puppet to life—you are
capable of making changes.
COLORED BUILDING BRICKS
Brightly colored wooden bricks tumble out of a
toy basket, ready to be built into towers, pretend
houses, and walls—hundreds of them, far more
than a child could need. There’s something
deeply attractive about these bricks: you begin
to play with them at once, as if you are still a
child, building the foundations of a new home.
Action Are you wanting to move or maybe
change careers? Building foundations has
powerful symbolism: colored bricks would
suggest a long-held childhood wish
to create something wonderful. Check out
the imagery—do primary-colored squares
have any present-day signicance for you?
