WILD
ANIMALS
They live in the jungle, on moors, in the
savanna, and on the side of mountains.
Untamed by humans, they roam as
nature intended. In dreams, their killer
instinct to survive appears symbolically
to us from the depths of our inner
world, where the socially
unacceptable hides in the shadows.
WILD ANIMALS IN
THE YARD
You are in an unknown house and notice
through big windows that there are several pet
animals in the yard. You go out to be friendly—
and suddenly see these are no tame pets, but
wild animals. Terried, you ee back to the
safety of the house, thankful to have realized
this before anything worse happened.
Action Are you sometimes too trusting with
people, oering yourself before you really get
to know them? With the best of intentions,
you go forward to be friendly, only to be
disappointed later. Your psyche has
illustrated your behavior pattern. Train
yourself to size up more closely at rst
and identify potential danger before
it could harm you.
ANGRY LIONS ROAR
Grazing animals raise their heads in alarm. You
see a lion descending from his shady branch
on a tree to investigate an intruder. A young
male lion is about to invade the pride’s space—
a terrible ght ensues. You wake, still hearing
their roars, and feel surprisingly angry yourself.
Action Dream the dream on: What happens
next? Which wild animal survives—the old
dominant lion or the hopeful young intruder?
With which lion do you identify with and feel
sympathy for? Consider that the lion is an
instinctual part of yourself. Reect on that
anger and see how it mirrors episodes in your
life where you may have wished to roar but
instead kept quiet. Now face future
challenges with a lion’s courage.

CASE STUDY: MILLIE
Millie has a dream to thank for overcoming
her fear. As a student faced with a long
vacation, she wanted to go to South Africa to
nd a job. But in the agony of indecision, she
was afraid of going into the unknown. A dream
then changed her mind. In it, she was walking
down the terraces of a big garden in South
Africa. She reached security gates leading
into a game park and pushed one open. A
massive lion rushed toward her, jaws open,
ready to sink its teeth into Millie’s head.
A voice said: “Fear not—big lions become
little lions.” Respecting that dream voice, she
stood her ground and watched the animal
hold back. The lion magically split into two
lions, then into four, and so on. The pack of
lions lunged at Millie again and again, but she
warded o death by standing resolutely on
the advice of that inner voice. Suddenly they
morphed into 16 harmless little lion cubs,
and all danger passed. Millie woke and
booked her ight.
