hand! This simple tutorial will show you
how to create a cute fabric headband
with fun, gathered detailing. Choose
unique and interesting fabric combina-
tions so you can have a great-looking
headband that complements any
outfit.
What You Need
Knowledge of straight seams and gathering
Level of difficulty: Beginner/easy
Two coordinating cotton fabrics (fabric A: 17 x 2

5 x 1-inch (13×2.5 cm) piece elastic (might need to be
adjusted shorter for a child-size head)

Press the short edges of both fabric A and fabric
B under

inch (.6 cm). Sew gathering stitches
along both long edges of fabric B.
Gather fabric B to fit the length of fabric A. With
the right sides together, pin the long edges of the
two pieces together.
Sew a regular straight stitch along the long
edges, just to the inside of the gathering stitches.
Backstitch at both ends. Turn the tube right side
out.
Press the headband flat. Insert the elastic into
the open ends of the headband. Pin, and straight
stitch to secure.
