Copying an existing dashboard

When designing and building dashboards, you can use an existing dashboard as the starting template for a new dashboard. Using the Save As method, the user can copy an existing dashboard and rename it as something new.

How it works...

The layout information for each component of the Dynamics CRM 2011 dashboard is stored as a record in the Dynamics CRM database. Using the Save As feature, Dynamics CRM creates a duplicate record of the database layout and identifies the new record with a unique name.

Using the Save As method to create a copy of the dashboard creates a clone of the original dashboard, but any changes made to the original dashboard will not be carried over into the cloned version of the dashboard.
