Navigating to a Specific Location in a View

With a long list of tasks, dozens of resources, and dates spanning months or even years, the different views in your project plan probably cover a lot of space. When you’re trying to get to a specific place in a view, you can always scroll vertically or horizontally. But there are shortcuts, as follows:

  • Ctrl+Home. Moves to the first cell in the first row in a sheet view.

  • Ctrl+End. Moves to the last cell in the last row in a sheet view.

  • Alt+Home. Moves to the beginning of the project timescale (Gantt Chart, Resource Graph, usage view).

  • Alt+End. Moves to the end of the project timescale (Gantt Chart, Resource Graph, usage view).

  • Alt+Left Arrow. Moves the timescale to the left.

  • Alt+Right Arrow. Moves the timescale to the right.

  • Scroll To Task button, or Ctrl+Shift+F5. Moves the timescale area of a view (Gantt chart or usage view) to the location of the task or assignment selected in the sheet area of the view. On the Task tab, in the Editing group, click Scroll To Task.

Scroll To Task button, or Ctrl+Shift+F5

    Scroll To Task

  • Go To command, F5. Goes to the Task ID or Resource ID entered in the ID box. Or, if used in a timescaled view (Gantt chart, Timeline, usage view, or Resource Graph), moves the chart area of the timescaled view to the location of the date entered in the Date box.

Note

By default, the Go To command is available only by pressing F5. However, if you prefer, you can add it to the Quick Access Toolbar or to a custom group on the ribbon. To learn how, see Chapter 29.
