Switching between multiple Lync identities with a click – Profiles for Lync (P4L)

The Lync 2013 client has no built-in feature to save multiple profiles or switch between different identities; there are situations where users like Lync administrators might need the ability to quickly sign in with different accounts. Profiles for Lync (P4L) by Lync MVP Greig Sheridan (@greiginsydney) is a tool that will allow you to save multiple accounts and switch between them with one click, through a keyboard shortcut or through a command line.

Getting ready...

The tool is available at http://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/office/Profiles-For-Lync-2013-1b193329. This is the Lync 2013 version. A version for the Lync 2010 client is also available. Both the Lync 2013 and 2010 versions can be installed and coexist on the same machine.

How to do it…

Using the tool is very simple. The following screenshot shows the main application window. Up to 40 identities can be saved. These are split across four tabs, each with its own shortcut key. The button highlighted in blue shows you which account is currently signed in; you can therefore switch identities in three different ways:

  1. INTERACTIVE: Click on the number corresponding to the identity you want to use
  2. KEY SHORTCUT: While the main utility windows is in the foreground, type the number corresponding to the identity you want to use (identities from 1 to 10 require no additional key)
  3. COMMAND LINE: From a command prompt, browse to the folder where P4L is installed and type the following to activate profile no. 1:
    "Profiles for Lync 2013.exe" /site=01
