Exercise – create your first Report

In this exercise, you will learn to create a Report using preexisting objects on the Tutorial Project. Later on, you will learn to create the underlying objects to build a Report from scratch. Take the following steps:

  1. In MicroStrategy Developer, log in to the MicroStrategy Analytics Modules Project Source.
  2. Open the MicroStrategy Tutorial Project.
  3. Browse to the folder MicroStrategy Tutorial | Public Objects | Reports.
  4. Create a subfolder named My Exercises.
You create a folder the same way you do in the Microsoft Explorer.
  1. Once inside the My Exercises folder, right-click | New | Report. A New Grid window will pop up. Leave the default Blank Report option | OK. The Report Editor will open.
  2. In the Object Browser section (if it is not visible go to View menu | Object Browser), click on the Public Objects shortcut. Alternatively, you can also use the dropdown to navigate to the desired location, then browse to the Templates. Select the Time Analysis Template and drag and drop it to the Template section.
  3. Use the Object Browser to locate the following path: Public Objects | Filters | Miscellaneous Filters. Then drag and drop the TV & Video Filter into the Report Filter section.
  4. Click on the Grid view icon located on the Report Editor tool bar, shown as follows. The Report will now execute:
