Describing the types of Metrics

There are three main types of Metrics:

  • Simple Metrics: These Metrics follow the previous definition. Thus, they are built upon the aggregation of a Fact.
  • Compound Metrics: These are metrics that result from the operation of two or more Metrics. For example, a percentage change Metric that is defined by dividing the delta of two Metrics, for example, M2-M1 by one of the numerators: (M2-M1)/M2.
  • Derived Metrics: These Metrics can't be created independently or externally like the other two types. Derived Metrics can only be created locally in the Report definition, and the calculations are performed without the use of SQL (by the Intelligence Server Analytical Engine).
